FAQ

What is Supermatic®?

Simply put, it's the world's first automatic binding system that feels like a regular two-strap.

Can I use my existing boots?

Yes! Supermatic® is designed to work with any snowboard boot from any brand. For the smoothest possible experience, it's worth considering Nidecker's own boots since we engineer them alongside the bindings. They're low profile for a seamless fit, and feature a unique Transition Zone on the back for even easier entry and exit.

Do Supermatic® bindings work in powder?

For sure! Thanks to the dual entry design, if the snow is super deep then you can just use them like a regular two-strap binding and crank the ratchets. Likewise, the buckles give you another option for quickly releasing the straps if you ever find yourself stuck on your back. Hey, it happens to the best of us.

Does Supermatic® work on steep slopes?

Yup. If you’re strapping in on a super steep or off-cambered slope and you need to sit down, then just use the buckles like a regular binding.

Are Supermatic® bindings compatible with the Burton Channel?

Yes. Supermatic® models ship with our standard Offset Multi-Disk, which can be mounted on 4x4, 4x2 and the M6 Channel – without the need for an accessory channel-disk.

What size should I buy?

Supermatic® bindings are available in Small, Medium, Large and XL. Here's the size chart.

Note – some third party boots are bulkier in design. If this applies to you and your shoe size puts you near a boundary, go bigger.

How do I set up my Supermatic® bindings?

Please refer to the video tutorial above for step-by-step instructions. We’ll have you set up in no time.

How tight should I set the straps?

We designed Supermatic® to work with your normal strap tension. There’s no need to run them loose – “snug, but not painfully tight” is just fine. Our Active Strap tech lifts the whole rig up when the highback is reclined, making more space for your foot to slide in and out, and tightens automatically when you engage the heel pedal. For the smoothest possible entry, leave a finger-width gap between the boot and the diagonal connecting strap when setting up for the first time (see video above) – this part of the Hybrid Strap keeps the toe and ankle elements in position and is not needed for support.

Do the highbacks fold down?

Totally! For space-saving storage or easy transport in a board bag, you can fold the highbacks forward just like a regular binding. Pro tip: open the ankle and toe straps first for maximum space efficiency.

How do I release the bindings?

Simply push the release lever down with your thumb/finger, and maintain pressure while lifting your heel. It’s designed for easy use even in gloves.

DO NOT use your boot to push the lever; this risks damaging the mechanism.

Do the highbacks rotate?

Due to the unique speed entry design, highback rotation is not currently supported on Supermatic® bindings. However, you can easily adjust the forward lean for more aggressive edge control.

How do I center Supermatic® bindings on my board?

The Offset Multi-Disk (which comes in the box) lets you reduce any toe or heel overhang. See this video tutorial for step by step instructions.

Do I need to use a leash?

As with any snowboard binding, your board should be properly attached to you (using an approved retention device) at all times. We have included a leash for your convenience, please use it. If your leash is removed for any reason, turn the board upside down and push the bindings securely into the snow to prevent runaways.

How do I lower the highbacks to get on the chairlift?

Tilt the highback all the way forward until it makes contact with the ankle strap – just like a regular binding. Remember to recline it again fully before attempting to step in.

Is shipping free?

Yep. We offer free, low-carbon ground shipping for all Supermatic® orders. Regional info and delivery times can be found here.

Won't I still have to wait at the top of the lift for my non-Supermatic friends?

Well… That’s up to you 😄

Troubleshooting

My binding is not hooking in

This is likely due to snow and ice accumulation. To fix:

- Open the binding using the release lever and put the highback in the reclined position
- Remove any snow and ice that has accumulated under the heel pedal
- Fully depress the release lever once more and release
- Check that your strap lengths are OK and haven’t been modified
- Try to step in again

My heel feels higher than the front of my foot

This is likely because the binding is not closed correctly. To fix:

- Open the binding using the release lever and put the highback in the reclined position
- Remove any snow and ice that has accumulated under the heel pedal
- Fully depress the release lever once more and release
- Check that your strap lengths are OK and haven’t been modified
- If you’ve cranked your forward lean, remove it temporarily
- Close the binding by pushing the heel pedal with your hand, and check that the pedal is flush with your board
- Try to step in again

It feels difficult to get my foot into the binding

This is likely due to your strap settings, To fix:

- Check that the diagonal strap is not in contact with your boot when in the closed position (see setup video). The diagonal strap’s only function is to keep your ankle and toe strap in the right place when the binding is open – there is no performance advantage to it being really tight.
- Check that your buckles have not moved position. If necessary, readjust your straps. LSR 2.0 buckles will lock in place as soon as you stop cranking; if your binding features earlier LSR buckles, ensure the button is in the locked position.

I find it difficult to get out of the binding

This is likely due to upward force or snow and ice accumulation.

- First and foremost, DO NOT use your boot to push the lever down – it’s harder to control the force and can damage or break it
- If you’re stopped on your toe edge facing uphill, the upward force from lifting your heels can apply extra tension to the locking mechanism, making it harder to depress the lever. Turn around onto your heel edge or find a flatter area to release
- Alternatively, release the straps using the buckles – just like a regular binding
- If snow and ice has accumulated around the locking mechanism, brush it away and retry the lever. This is more likely to occur on the front foot, after prolonged riding without release.
